I got a sturdy collection of Saadat Hassan Manto as a literary adventure, to experience what it’s like to read one of most controversial writers of subcontinent (India & Pakistan)
Since, in my civid-induced coma I struggle with chasing a story, I ran my finger through index and opened the first shortest story.
The story spread across less than 5 pages but I don’t think I will forget it in 5 lifetimes.
Did you ever come across something so messed-up you go numb?
The harrowing story is about a man and his choices when the society turned into a black inferno, where population divided into assailants and victims.
Accountability burned to ashes and clung to walls like they never existed.
Manto’s words lanced and icicle through my conscience and froze my ability process anything around me.
A hard question started haunting me.
Is it how the society works?
When there’s no accountability, either you are traumatized, or you are the trauma.
