When Art is on To-Do List

This is in continuation of … https://stoneronarollercoaster.com/2022/01/27/work-in-process/

If your want to see complete progression visit that post first.

I wasn’t planning to finish this any sooner, but then on a whim I wrote it in my to-do list.

That means I have to finish it or it would keep bothering me.

Where I left it last time, I couldn’t think of anything.

So, I thought I should sit with it and let the art take the lead.

First time I tried incorporating colour zones on face, I like the difference it makes.

I know there’s a lot that could be done. But again I have to leave it here with little contentment and move on to rest of the list.

As always, I would love to hear your feedback (especially criticism). 🙂

Thanks.

  1. Any criticism from me should be ignored: I don’t know enough to critique effectively. I also like the colour palette. That bit between her left shoulder and the dress/top bothers me a smidge. But I very much like the mouth and the tension there 💖

    1. i wrote a whole reply and forgot to post it.

Any criticism from you must not be ignored and should only be appriciated 🙂

You are 100% right about the shoulder part. actually the reference image i chose was in gry scale that made it difficult to detect right values and shadows. Leassons learned: never picking a gray scale image as reference! I’m really really grateful to you for feedback, it really helps me grow, better than making same mistakes again and again.

I’m glad you liked it, i intesionally wanted eyes to be closed otherwise that’s where all the attension goes.
      Thanks a lot again 🙂

  2. To show the transitional progress of a work of art is a brave attempt but can be a risky proposition! A moment of irritation might be experienced by the artists when their work is being observed by outsiders, who are making annoying comments, which are usually based on ignorance about the creative process. In most instances, even the artist is not sure about the final version or when the work should be left unfinished, rest or simply declared as complete. All creative endeavours are a risky business and we as artists are the worst judges of our own work.

    1. That’s why i only share my work here or with very close people. I have a small trust circle to share my art and writing with. It comes with the drawback of limited exposure but i would prefer that over annoying comments any given day.

About sharing process, i started taking pictures of process because i would forget how i got there from the first mark on paper. Then i thought it would be interesting for readers to see how the whole thing progresses. And this could be motivating for them too.

People here have always been kind and supportive and little critism (very rare) only helps me improve. The first sketch i shared here look like a joke to me now because these people help my art grow so much.

Always appriciate your concern, kindness, wisdom and support. I’m grateful to have you here especially when you look at things as artist’s perspective. Thanks you for being here 🙂
