Some days I’m Bob…Some days I’m Dr. Marvin
This is not a movie..it’s a therapy!
I have been asking for recommendation for last few days. Needed something to play on the side as I continue with painstaking process of job hunt.
My one wrong choice would have made the whole process 20 times more agonizing.
Thanks to Jonathan Pines for suggesting “what about Bob”
I saw the trailer and I was like…that’s it!!
Enough of rambling.
This is about a psychiatrist and his patient.
Intro from google:
“Before going on vacation, self-involved psychiatrist Dr. Leo Marvin (Richard Dreyfuss) has the misfortune of taking on a new patient: Bob Wiley (Bill Murray). An exemplar of neediness and a compendium of phobias, Bob follows Marvin to his family’s country house. Dr. Marvin tries to get him to leave; the trouble is, everyone love Bob. As his oblivious patient makes himself at home, Dr. Marvin loses his professional composure and, before long, may be ready for the loony bin himself.”
I don’t remember one time when Bill Murray disappointed (at least out of the movies I have watched yet) this man is a separate genre.
Performance by each and every actor is just brilliant!
I don’t think anyone would have done better at playing the character of Dr. Marvin.
The story is hilarious, I was in stitches in few points.
There’s something sensitive about this movie. It shows how badly we depend on validation.
It takes few words. Any words. Tiny bit of attention to push us back on the track. And that’s what people very conveniently refuse to extend.
It’s easy to turn a blind eye to people crying for help and we always come up with a convincing explanation. We always have a long list of excuses. Or just..”I was busy”
This movie wraps the subject of mental health, validation, love and kindness in wit and humor. Beautiful execution of the subject.
I might be watching it again soon. Need a few more doses of baby steps 🙂

Thank you for the recommendation. I have seen Dreyfuss in Close encounters of the third kind and Always, but not this film. I shall try and see it x
