Girl interrupted has been on the must-watch list for a very long time and last night I crossed this one finally.
Since it was released in December 1999 and its 2019, and the whole image of mental health has shifted drastically since then, I watched it with a clean slate as a viewer rather than as an advocate of the subject.
And either way, it did not disappoint.
Chilling performances by characters.
Chilling because the way they switched between vulnerable to violent, manipulative to innocent, victim to culprit, is remarkable!
In the end you wander will I be ever judge them?
Oh them. I forgot to even introduce the movie.
It’s about a girl who is send to a psychiatric hospital, Claymoore, to “rest”.
It’s about her stay there and it’s based on a true story.
If you haven’t watch it, you should!
In the beginning she said,
“Have you ever confused a dream with life? Or stolen something when you have the cash? Have you ever been blue? Or thought your train moving while sitting still? Maybe I was just crazy. Maybe it was the 60’s. Or maybe I was just a girl… interrupted.”
And the end this this quote will replay in your mind.
Angelina Jolie’s acting was out of this world and it earned her numerous awards too.
But the rest weren’t short of perfection as well.
Britany Murphy’s presence saddened me deeply for her character in the movie and her leaving so soon in real life.
Well.
Lines between normal and not-normal is as fuzzy as between reality and dream, that’s what it is all about.
“Sometimes the only way to stay sane is to go a little crazy.”
― Susanna Kaysen, Girl, Interrupted

It was really good. I read the books and watch the movies too, in that order, if possible.

i try to go in that order. if i have a book and i haven’t read it i wait to read it before watching the movie but sometime i don’t have time to commit to the book so i jump to movie directly. its less disappointing 😆

honestly i had been meaning to watch it for so long that i already knew half of the story. at least the characters. i loved it. but i have seen one flew over the cuckoo’s nest too, and liked that too, it wasn’t 100% new to me. i mean i had a story on the same lines in my mind already.
overall awesome movie!

My Wife and I really love that Film. It shows how out of touch people were regarding mental health. Thanks for raising awareness. I’ve had depression for many years, but things do get better. Regards, Adam
