I got new sketchbook some time back and it was acid free paper and specifically for pencils, charcoal, colours pencils, pastels, so I thought ok this is a good option.
with the first mark with pastel on it I realized it had a lot of tooth, it’s going to required plenty of layers but that helps with blending and layering at times but your materials wear out fast with your arm as it takes effort to rub in the pigment into the page.
well..honestly I wasn’t really happy at first. I tried to do something playing safe. I had a concept in mind and this happened..
I know..lady Charlie Chaplin..so disappointing. I gave up.
Sam suggested I keep it aside and work on it later as it still could be saved.
Then today I was a bit emotional..well I am all the time.
So I took out all the pastels and I said..ok now this is going to lead me..enough of playing safe..
and I ended up with this..
I was a bit teary eyed in the end don’t really know why. well, actually I was brimming with anger for some reason throughout this work.
But I was at peace that I didn’t discard it which I was going to do initially.
so..
That’s all for now.

One of favorite quotes of all time (and I don’t remember who said it) is, “Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.”
This, of course, does not include our often frenzied emotional states preventing us from seeing the art. Glad you didn’t abandon ship, you nailed it. It’s beautiful 🙂

I love that quote.
Practically i dont know when i will reach that point where i know which mistake is worth keeping.
Thanks for appriciating. I dont really expect people to like this one it’s more like a rescued paper 😆 the idea of trashing a proper art paper did hurt!

lol…. First of all…. “good on you” for the continued work you are doing with Mental Health Awareness. Amazing to see the trickle-down effect of that validation you speak of, or just letting others know “someone is out there” who understands. 🤗
As for the art it’s always in the eyes for me. Your work has progressed again. I think it has been good to step away and return. I have seen so many blogs blossom because of that. Anyway…initially she looks sad, but if you notice she is looking directly at the recipient. I think it is more of a confidence like “I got this” or “you don’t scare me”. the sadness goes away if you look at it like that. Oh and I wish I had her hair! Perfect swirls in just the right places.

For mental health awareness, this cause is very close to me. And i really can’t give words to what i feel about it. It takes emotional toll on me everyday but when i imagine people actually go through this..and if i am in any capacity to do something it’s worth it. I could spread it really fast on different forums but i was concerned about privacy of our friends here. WordPress community is kind. Rest of the world isn’t so much.
It’s really in the eyes i was angry when i did this and when i showed sam she couldn’t see anger. She said something like you said about confidence. You really can’t tell what it is. I feel the same way about poetry.
Good hair mostly happen in only imagination

my oldest daughter is slipping back a bit. It has been a long battle for her too. I have encouraged her to get on here, be completely anonymous and just write. And I told her of you. She has a beautiful way with poetry, and the largest heart, but as you know, it must come from within.

I am humbled you told her about me. Its an amazing place its going to help her. If there’s anything i can do please let me know.
And yea tell her to stay anonymous it helps. She will be able to open up freely.
I am sure she is going to like it here. People are really compassionate here.
Hope things get better for her soon. Ameen

Look at you so full of hidden talents! I find something magnetic about it and hauntingly beautiful for reasons I can’t explain.
Never fear…the very best of poetry, news paper articles, prose, essays that I’d ever written was at midnight, tortured, with tears dripping from my chin. The worst of me often produced the best of me if that makes sense?

I felt exactly the same when it was done..something haunting and unexplainable.
Totally makes sense. My best poetry i did during depression and anxiety attack. Pain beautifys art and poetry 🙂 thanks for appriciating

Kudos for not giving up 👏🏼 you need a pat on your back. when you are creative, sometimes you get disappointed with your work but that doesn’t mean you should throw it away. I am so happy that you kept this and refined it into a beautiful sketch. Fab job! 👌 I am so excited to see more of your work. 😊
