Isle of Dogs- Movie Chatter

Remember the time when we would talk about books and movies here??

Eons ago we did!

But then blog picked pace and a lot of things took a backseat.

So yesterday I watched this animated movie “isle of dogs”, released in March, April 2018.

It’s written, produced and directed by Wes Anderson, just like “The Grand Budapest Hotel” which is one of my favorite movies.

Set in a dystopian near-future Japan, it’s about dogs intentionally being induced epidemic of canine influenza and banished to the trash island (that’s a literal trash island) as a part of an evil plan, like most of the movies.

Then a 12-year boy goes to find his estranged dog there…*surprise*

The story line is predictable and nothing extraordinary. But the movie will make you smile.

It has dogs. A lot of them.

And a lot of Japanese.

I didn’t look for subtitles I don’t know if they existed. I liked it as is.

When I was looking for a featured image I came across this news that the movie was criticized for cultural misappropriation as all of the dogs spoke English and the entire movie is based in Japan.

Umm honestly I didn’t feel it until I read that. Maybe cultural misappropriation offends you when it actually involves your culture. maybe..maybe..

Anyway.

It’s easy on eyes and ears.

No sharp insanely bright animation and cacophonous sound effects which I appreciate given that I needed something to soothe my sense not to blast them.

Overall good movie. Not a life changing one tho.

I will give it 7/10 overall.

Smiles and random chuckles are promised.

Random Trivia: There is an assistant scientist in the movie name Yoko Ono, voiced by none other that real Yoko Ono…i like that!

Some of the lines from movie:

Rex: To the north, a long rickety causeway over a noxious sludge marsh leading to a radioactive landfill polluted by toxic chemical garbage. That’s our destination.
Boss: Great.
Duke: Got it.
Rex: Get ready to jump.

 

Rex: I used to sleep on a lamb’s wool beanbag next to an electric space heater. That’s my territory, I’m an *indoor* dog.
King: I starred in twenty-two consecutive Doggy Chow commercials. Look at me now, I couldn’t land an audition.
Boss: I was the lead mascot for an undefeated high school baseball team. I lost all my spirit, I’m depressing.
Duke: I only ask for what I’ve always had, a balanced diet, regular grooming, and a general physical once a year.
Chief: You’re talking like a bunch of housebroken… pets.
Rex: You don’t understand. Uh, how could you, I mean you’re a…
Chief: Go ahead say it. I’m a stray, yeah.

 

Oracle: It may snow tonight.
Boss: Really? Thank you very much, wow.
Oracle: To whom it may concern.
Boss: She sees the future!
King: Ha! No. She understands TV.
